These regular meetings, hosted by our board-certified physicians and certified bariatric nurse, include a detailed discussion of the various surgical options available to you and cover the many questions you may have about surgery. At the end of the seminar, you will be able to make an appointment with the surgeon of your choice, who will then meet with you in the office for a private consultation to review your specific health issues and concerns, answer any questions you may have and set a date for surgery.
Weight Loss Surgery
Learn about the bariatric procedures that Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeons offers to lose weight and get healthier long-term. We use advanced, minimally invasive surgical techniques that enable a quicker recovery with less pain than traditional open procedures.
Gastric sleeve: The gastric sleeve, also known as sleeve gastrectomy, is the most popular bariatric procedure in the United States. In a sleeve gastrectomy procedure, about 80 percent of your stomach is removed so it holds less food and produces less ghrelin, a hormone that triggers hunger.
Gastric bypass: The gastric bypass procedure is considered the gold standard in bariatric surgery. In a laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, the stomach is first sealed off to limit the amount of food that can be eaten at any one time then rerouted farther down the intestines, limiting the amount of calories the body absorbs.
Gastric balloon: Gastric balloons are temporary and nonoperative weight loss procedures. Because the balloons occupy space in the stomach, you learn the right amount of food to eat. Once healthy eating habits are ingrained and established, the balloons are removed.
