Intra-Gastric Balloon

An alternative to surgery, strict diets, and weight loss pills

No matter what your weight goal, the intragastric balloon may help you. It is a 12-month weight loss program designed to kick-start your weight loss while supporting your lifestyle changes. It is an ideal solution if you are looking to lose up to 20-30lbs* of excess weight, but don't want to undergo permanent surgical solutions. (*Weight loss varies person from to person).

Advanced Laparoscopic Associates is not only one of the first weight loss practices to be offering this balloon weight loss procedure in the tri-state area, but they participated in the FDA clinical trials and have therefore experienced the full potential of this program.

Please visit our bariatric balloon website for more detailed information on this non-invasive procedure: bariballoon.com

How the balloon works

Once the balloon is in place in your stomach it is filled with saline, expanding to partially fill the stomach area. This helps you feel less hungry and consume smaller portions of food as you experience a similar satisfaction as you would have previously experienced after consuming a larger meal.

Most weight is lost during the first three months, but because the intragastric balloon stays in your stomach for six months, you will learn to eat the right amount of food to maintain your new weight long-term.

During the first six months (and after) you will work together with our nutritional support team and weight loss experts to personalize your own plan.

Are you a suitable candidate?

  • Yes, if you are moderately overweight and unable to achieve your desired weight loss through traditional weight loss methods, such as diet and exercise.
  • Yes, if you are only aiming at losing about 20-30lbs and are not eligible for, or maybe uncomfortable with, other forms of weight loss surgery.
  • Yes, if you have a BMI of ≥ 27 and are willing to participate in an established medically-supervised diet and behavior modification program with regular follow-up.

This is not suitable for the following patients:

  • People who have had previous gastrointestinal surgery, any inflammatory disease of the gastrointestinal tract, potential upper gastrointestinal bleeding or other congenital anomalies, large hiatal hernia or other structural abnormality in the esophagus or larynx
  • People who may suffer from any other medical conditions that would not permit endoscopy
  • People who are unwilling to adopt the dietary habits and behavior change critical to the success of the therapy
  • People who are going through drug or alcohol addiction
  • Women who are pregnant or are breastfeeding
  • People who have had prior or present psychological disorders
  • People who are taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory agents, anticoagulants or other gastric irritants
  • As with all medical procedures there are potential risks of unforeseen, unknown or adverse reactions to medications and the procedure itself. Please discuss your questions and expectations about the Intra Gastric Balloon treatment program with us so that we can evaluate the benefits versus possible risks.
